Los Angeles Magazine threw a party for the opening of The Avenue apartments last night and I answered “Ask Chris” questions for the revelers. Councilman Tom LaBonge was there to cut the ribbon and dropped by my booth in a furnished unit. I had some books out for reference and to show off pictures. I happened to bring a copy of my 2007 book The Leisure Architecture of Wayne McAllister and Tom was leafing through it while telling me about his trip to Germany next week and about all the Los Angeles books he’s bringing on behalf of the sister cities thing he’s always so excited about. Of course I handed him the book about one of my favorite L.A. architects and now a small slice of (usually) sunny Southern California will soon be in the Hamburg city library. I’m überglücklich to share Wayne’s world with our European friends. Thanks, Tom!
