Original Wienerschnitzel Joins List Of L.A. Landmarks

The 52-year-old birthplace of Wienerschnitzel was declared a Historic Cultural Monument in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Southern California is the birthplace of the fast food industry, and it is a perfect fit. The stand joins Johnie’s Coffee Shop at Wilshire and Fairfax and more than a thousand landmarks on a list that features a surprising number of dining spots. Some have been around for decades and others were historic buildings recently reborn as restaurants. Long-gone favorites like Chasen’s and Perino’s were never included, but the Pantry, Yamashiro, and Cole’s made the cut. Here are forty of our favorites drawn from the official register.
