Magic Trip With Ken Kesey

Almost fifty years ago, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest author Ken Kesey and a gaggle of his beatnik friends packed their art supplies, LSD and myriad camera equipment into a converted school bus nicknamed Furthur and set out to visit the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Their encounters with Jack Kerouac, Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsberg along the way were captured in rich color on 16mm film that these proto-hippies never got around to editing. The new film Magic Trip dissects and resurrects the road trip made famous in Tom Wolfe’s Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Their first stop was Los Angeles where they cruised the Sunset Strip and marveled at out tropical scenery. The Nuart will host a Q&A with filmmaker Alison Ellwood after the 7:30 shows on Friday and Saturday. She will also introduce the 10pm show on Friday. Far out!
