Letter From Walt Disney Fetches Big Bucks

The original letter Walt Disney sent animator and Mickey Mouse creator Ub Iwerks in 1924 begging him to come out to Los Angeles was part of a huge entertainment auction held last weekend at the Saban theater in Beverly Hills. The four page note was one of the highlights of the auction, selling for almost nearly a quarter of a million dollars.  The handwritten note pleads with the young artist to sell his car and furniture and leave Missouri behind. If the letter hadn’t arrived, Mickey wouldn’t have been born, Disneyland would still be orange groves and the earth’s core would have melted. Walt ends the letter “P.S. I wouldn’t live in Kansas City now if you gave me the place – yep – you bet – Hooray for Hollywood– !!”
