I’ve run into funeral processions heading toward Rose Hills Memorial Park along the 605. There is always a motorcycle cop (I think it’s a cop, anyway) at the head of the single-file line of mourners. I don’t know what the etiquette is: Should I not move?

Actually, they’re not cops. Some are security guards; others are motorcycle enthusiasts making an extra buck. They freelance their services to funeral escort firms and wear company uniforms. If you encounter a procession of mourners, says Nick Clark, spokesman for Rose Hills, “don’t break the line.” When on surface streets, stop at green lights if a convoy crosses in front of you. “You wouldn’t want to crash that party,” Clark says.
