I am dying to find out the story behind the Tiffany lamp in the middle of an open grassy lot at Loma Vista and Mountain drives in Beverly Hills.

Shopping mall tycoon Guilford Glazer put it there “to spruce up the view.” Glazer, listed in 2008 as the 48th-wealthiest Angeleno, lives across the street and owns the vacant lot. Rather than develop the land, he purchased the antique lampshade—shaped like a mushroom and colored purple, blue, and white—and stuck it on a four-foot pole surrounded by shrubs. That reminds me of a talk by Jerry Lewis I once attended. Somebody asked if he really wore a new pair of socks every day. He said yes. Why? “Because I’m rich!”
