Hidden Landmark Bullocks Wilshire Open For One Day Only

587

Three hundred and sixty four days a year, the art deco glory of the former Bullocks Wilshire department store is off limits to us admirers. This Saturday, the doors will finally be open when the school hosts the annual Summer Day at Bullocks Wilshire tour. Southwestern Law School acquired the landmark in 1994 and restored the tower and jaw-dropping 1929 interiors to their original appearance while accommodating classrooms, mock courtrooms and student commons. The heavily tiled deco-desert dining room will also be open for tea or a full luncheon. When I visited, they were serving coconut cream pie (after this weekeend you’re left to bake your own or get one here) prepared from the original recipe. Mmmmm. If you’re trying to get on grandma’s good side, get your tickets today, this event sells out every year. You don’t want to have to explain that after she’s already had her special hat cleaned and blocked.
