The “Hell’s Chariot “ hot rod from the 1978 movie Grease sold on eBay over the weekend for $180,100. You could buy two Teslas for that! The shell of the 1949 Mercury redesigned by custom carmaker Eddie Paul was found last year and restored in Palm Desert. It seems like 36 years of wear and tear didn’t leave the car in very good shape. The engine and transmission are rebuilt period replacements and the bumpers, graphics, hubcaps, tires, and license plates are replicas based on the film. If you are a Grease superfan but didn’t win this auction you can still visit the George Barris – designed “Grease Lightning” ’46 Ford convertible at the Petersen Automotive Museum.
