Even though it only scored 58% on Rotten Tomatoes and critic Roger Ebert called it a “A seriously confused movie that tries to do three things, and does all of them badly,” the film Footloose has been given the reboot treatment and a remake is due in theaters next month. A musical version of the 1984 dance ban flick, starring Kevin Bacon and John Lithgow, will be performed by Glendale’s Stepping Stone Players starting this Friday. The twist this time is that the mean ‘ol town council that outlaws frisky heel kicking (on the eve of the big prom no less) is being portrayed by real politicians! The show has cast Glendale Mayor Laura Friedman, Glendale School Board President Joylene Wagner and commissioner Christine Walters as the town council of fictional Bomont. What parts do you think would be good for the members of the Los Angeles City Council? How about retired cop Bernard Parks in a musical remake of Lethal Weapon? Or maybe bike enthusiast Eric Garcetti as adult Elliott in a sequel to E.T.? C’mon, these are good ones!
