Two enormous new signposts are about to welcome visitors to Beverly Hills. Concrete and steel towers nearly as tall as the Hollywood Sign are going up at the city limits and will feature a reproduction of the famous brown-and-gold City shield on one side and the City seal on the other. The signs are under construction at Wilshire and San Vicente, and Olympic and Spaulding.
The 40’ columns will crown dramatically lit islands filled with Medjool date palms, stone pavers, and granite-topped walls. Gruen Associates, a longstanding local firm famous for their award-winning shopping malls, designed the monuments, which replace pole-mounted markers that were found in a city report to be “obscured by traffic lights.”
When these bad boys are finished in September, you’ll definitely know when you’ve arrived in 90210.
