Free Talk On The Beat Generation In Los Angeles

Get out your turtleneck and black beret, historian and music writer Domenic Priore is giving a talk on our long-lost beatnik coffee houses called Café L.A.: The Beat Generation In Los Angeles. The Gas House, Fifth Estate, Café Frankenstein, and Venice West were the 1950’s breeding grounds for the counter culture generation of the 1960’s. The beat scene thrived in Southern California and ended up not only in fine art, but influencing pop culture like Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, Roger Corman, and even The Munsters. Priore will show impossibly rare photos from his private collection. Revel in the projected bongos and espresso for free at Bolton Hall in Tujunga this Saturday afternoon.
