Armando Arreola’s Googie Style show at the Ave. 50 Gallery in Highland Park is closing this weekend and I’ll be there to send it off. The crushed glass portraits of iconic midcentury buildings will be my partners for a slideshow talk on the history of the style. I’ll talk about Pann’s and Norms and the earliest roadside eateries built in the style, to the epic heights it reached in the Kennedy years, to the decline and fall of optimistic futurism. Come join me, it’s free and sometimes I get so excited I even do a little dance. I love this stuff.
