Celebrate Bob Baker’s 90th Birthday With Cake, Puppets, And Charles Phoenix

Before Union Station or the Griffith Observatory were built, Bob Baker was breathing life into marionettes. On February 9th you can help Baker blow out the candles on his 90th birthday cake and see the show that made him a hero to generations of L.A. kids.

Pop culture humorist Charles Phoenix is hosting the tribute to Baker at his landmark theater near downtown. Miraculously, Baker has managed to keep the doors open under tremendous financial pressure, so see it now while the seeing is good.

The show concludes with cake and ice cream in the party room. Baker has retired from performing at his namesake venue, but Phoenix hints that the puppeteer might be persuaded to take the stage on his special day. Phoenix is known for his outrageous culinary creations, so be prepared. The cake might melt, light up or even fly away.
