John Eng and Adriene Biondo have been documenting their road trips into obscure corners of California for years. Here are some of their dispatches sent in from the road:
Although I’ve passed through the seaside town of Oxnard many times over the years, I’ve rarely toured the older part of town. Discovering the Vogue Theatre sure made the side trip worthwhile. Designed by famed architect S. Charles Lee, the architecture of the Vogue is distinctively 1940s Streamline Moderne. The nesting letters on the tower sign remind me of those collapsible drinking cups like my Mom used to carry in her purse.
If you’re looking to do some exploring, Oxnard holds many treasures like the Carnegie Art Museum, Mullin Automotive Museum, historic Woolworth Building, and of course its beautiful Channel Islands Harbor. -Adriene Biondo
