I’m not sure whether “Keep Portland Weird” or “Keep Austin Weird” appeared first, but the sentiment will hit Los Angeles Wednesday night as Cinefamily hosts an evening with some of the strangest minds in comedy. Keep Netflix Weird gathers the creators of Arrested Development, Bojack Horseman, With Bob and David, F is for Family, and the upcoming Lady Dynamite to hang out and watch TV with their fans. Bob Odenkirk, Maria Bamford, Bill Burr, Mitch Hurwitz, Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Mike Price & Pam Brady (all have shows on the streaming network) could headline a comedy festival, but instead they’re doing this free night in a funky old neighborhood theater famous for showing silent movies. To paraphrase the great Yakov Smirnoff “What a city!”
The event is listed as free and first come, first served—registration is required, though, and special “black card” holders get priority, so expect a long line of oddballs turned away in a sad parade down Fairfax, headed to Canter’s to drown their sorrows in the Kibitz Room.
