Broadway Gets New Lights, New Life

Broadway, downtown’s grand thoroughfare lined with glorious movie palaces and discount tube sock shopping, is shining brighter than it has in decades. The Ace Hotel, Urban Outfitters, and neat little boutiques have been bringing new life to the fabulous boulevard. Councilman Jose Huizar’s Bringing Back Broadway effort has now announced that 13 historic buildings will glow anew with a $750,000 grant to add snazzy lighting that shows off the curves of the historic buildings. The façade lighting is expected to encourage nightlife, make patrons feel safer, and highlight the elaborate details hiding just above street level. The funds will go to:

Zobel Building

Bumiller/Campbell Blake Building

Shulte United Building
