Ask Chris: On Wilshire Boulevard Near Crenshaw, There’s an Ornate Fenced-Off Building Named the Scottish Rite Center. Is This Part of Some Da Vinci Code Conspiracy?

Our in-house historian has the answer

For more than 50 years the windowless travertine walls of the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple have been off-limits to those outside the fraternity. The 1960 structure, once filled with murals and sculptures depicting Masonic history, was sold to Guess jeans founders Maurice and Paul Marciano in 2013. The brothers are adapting the space as a private museum for their art foundation and plan to stage public events starting next year.
