Ask Chris: What’s the Story With the Concrete Plant at Romaine and La Brea? Is It Still In Operation?

Our in-house historian has the answer

In 1923, highway builders W.L. Stine and J. Russell Ellis came to Hollywood and erected the state’s first cement-mixing plant in what was once an industrial zone (now a Target and nail salon zone), with a lumberyard and sheet metal supplier nearby. Ninety-two years later current owner Cemex is providing concrete to Metro Rail, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and the upcoming Columbia Square in Hollywood.
