Ask Chris: Is it True That a Gay Rights Group Receives Residuals from One of John Wayne’s Movies?

Our in-house historian has the answer

Gay rights pioneer, war hero, and onetime USC student William Dale Jennings is the author of The Cowboys, a novel that was turned into a 1972 film starring Wayne as a grumpy rancher tending to a bunch of teenagers. When Jennings died in 2000, he left his royalties to the nonprofit Homosexual Information Center in West Hollywood. Tommy Lee Jones is working on a remake, which may yield more buckaroos for the organization.
