Ask Chris: I Noticed that the Names of Some of the Houston’s Restaurants Were Changed to Hillstone. Was that Because of the Calorie Count Law?

Our in-house historian has the answer

The company says no, but feast on this: In 2008, California passed legislation that restaurants with more than 20 locations must post calorie counts. The Hillstone Restaurant Group renamed a handful of Houston’s, tweaking the menu and decor. The law is on its way to being repealed, but the spinach dip and barbecued ribs will remain a staple at the Hillstone in Santa Monica.
