Ask Chris: During a Recent Trip to L.A., I Toured Union Station and Was Surprised to Find a Huge Tank With Live Fish in Full Operation. Given the Drought, Why Maintain This Water Waster?

Our in-house historian has the answer

That water’s not coming from the tap; it was brought in from the ocean. Up to 7,500 gallons of seawater fill the tank, which is home to 60 native species (including five sharks!). The marine life took a little vacation recently at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach while the 21-year-old tank underwent a makeover.
