Barring a miracle from above, the bells of St. Bleary’s can ring as loudly (and as often) as desired. On January 17, 1973, the City of Los Angeles passed an ordinance outlawing noisy pool filters and rattling refrigerators, but it exempted churches, no matter how cacophonous. The rule does say the sounds need to be used for “customary” purposes. Calling the flock seems to meet the criterion.
