Go behind the locked doors of some of Pasadena’s most legendary rooms when the American Society of Interior Designers takes you on a tour of historic interiors in public spaces. The self-guided tour starts at 10am on Saturday April 30 and meets at the Pasadena Playhouse, the official State Theatre of California. The upstairs library (pictured) finished in wood paneling and Batchelder tile will be one of the locations hosting workshops on stained glass, mural art and moulding. Go backstage to the scene shop, dressing rooms and the former recital hall, which has been transformed into the 90-seat Carrie Hamilton Theater. The tour also visits the treasures of the Pacific Asia Museum, once the Grace Nicholson mansion, and the sanctuary of All Saints church, with its dozens of stained glass windows by Judson Studios and Louis Comfort TIffany. Maybe these showstoppers will finally convince you that there’s no good reason for painting your walls white.
