An actor heading to an audition makes imaginary wardrobe decisions all the time: What would a crusty Chicago detective wear? How about a single father of two in Denver—boots or Chucks? Just as important is the everyday outfit for around town. You never know what big macher you might meet while picking up a carton of milk. For up-and-comer Michael Klinger, however, the notion doesn’t enter his mind. He describes his style as basic. “I do love blazers and jackets, though. Someday I’d like a reason to wear them more often.”
A Miami native, Klinger landed in Playa del Rey in 2006 and then made his way east to Hollywood. “Since most auditions are on this side of town, I wanted to be closer to work and feel more plugged in,” he says. Klinger recently scored the role of Depression-era bank robber Harry Brunette in J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. His scene involved a shoot-out and an explosion, but most of it ended up on the cutting room floor. “If you blink you’ll miss me,” he says. “It happens to everyone.” The big thrill was knowing that director Clint Eastwood had personally chosen him for the part. Next up for Klinger is a feature film with Tom Sizemore—and hopefully the bucks to invest in a few red carpet-worthy duds.
