How to Get a Cronut in L.A. This Weekend

The cronuts are coming! For real this time!

The cronuts are coming! The cronuts are coming! This morning, New York’s Dominique Ansel Bakery—famous around the world for creating the doughnut-croissant mash-up, the now-trademarked Cronut®—announced that they were coming to L.A. to host a one-day pop-up at Barneys New York at The Grove this upcoming Saturday, March 1 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.—or until supplies run out.

(Cue sound of teenage girls screaming.)

The pastry savant himself, Dominique Ansel, will be making the cronuts on-site at The Grove. Some sources are reporting that our own pastry chef Sherry Yard will be helping out, just for fun. The Cronut® in question is March’s Milk & Honey flavor, made with fresh milk ganache with wildflower honey jam and lightly scented lavender sugar.

Already, phone lines at The Grove are jammed. There’s no hope for you if you’re looking to avoid the line by ordering Cronuts ahead of time—not even if your last name is Weinstein. If you want to get a cronut this weekend, here’s what you have to do:

❶ Consider waiting in line now. As with other big events, The Grove security has begun roping off areas near Barneys entrance to direct crowds. Because we’re expecting rain later this week and weekend, it’s likely that The Grove will offer you an umbrella.

❷ Bring cash. The cronuts are not free, though all sales will benefit Heart of Los Angeles, a non-profit organization that provides education and opportunities to underserved youth.

❸ Pack tissues; expect to be disappointed when they sell-out. Cronuts go on sale at Barneys at 10 a.m. sharp. Only a limited number will be made. You’re only allowed two Cronuts per person. If you don’t get a taste, there’s always Sprinkles around the corner.
