Leonard Maltin keeps a figure of Ignatz, the mouse from George Herriman’s Krazy Kat, on his desk. “Looking back, it’s astonishing to realize that a comic strip so sophisticated, experimental, and downright surreal was also so popular,” says Maltin.  “There has never been anything quite like Krazy Kat before or since, and it’s easy to see why no one could continue to write and draw it after Herriman. Like his strip, he was unique.”
