The sun reflects off the wood hulls of the 1920s powerboats docked at Gar Woods Grill & Pier as you nurse a Wet Woody, the signature frozen tiki drink, on the deck. Walk it off on the sand at Kings Beach, where New Age-y shops and retro motels line one side of the street and sunbathers doze beneath tall pines on the other. Or keep following the bay to kayak the blue, blue waters of Lake Tahoe at Sand Harbor State Park. For dinner, sophisticated tapas like crispy risotto balls are available at Bite Restaurant in Incline Village, or for avant-garde sushi, try Mikuni in Northstar Village. A gondola ride away is the new Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe; a cocoa by the four-story stone fireplace is in order. As dusk settles, admire the trails that in winter you can access from right outside your room. Tomorrow you’ll be mountain biking on them.
