Dinner With David

David Arquette hosts a poolside dinner at his home for The Art of Elysium

It was quiet—too quiet—walking up to David Arquette’s pad for The Art of Elysium Summer Supper. What kind of party was this? I had this same eery feeling years ago when I pulled up to producer Robert Evan’s gate for a party and the house was dark. Crickets chirped. Given Evan’s reputation, I had visions of a mod key party. Oh my dirty mind—it was nothing that exciting. I had shown up on the wrong night. Did I have the wrong night again? Or was Arquette collecting people to make into human marionettes? All was revealed as I walked around his A. Quincy Jones-designed home to the front yard. There was everyone, drinks in hand, mingling around the pool, L.A. twinkling below, while Brent Bolthouse spun tunes next to the bar. Tarina Tarantino was easy to spot with her pink hair. Moby was there too, along with Shepard Fairey, Topher Grace, Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, Abigail Spencer, and Los Angeles mag’s own Chris Nichols in a smart fedora. Arquette’s daughter Coco (mother is Courtney Cox) put in an appearance early on with two little dogs but ducked out before dinner. The pups wanted to mingle though, you could hear them trying to scratch their way out from behind closed doors.

The Kingdom of Morocco and AUDI sponsored the Moroccan themed supper for the The Art of Elysium (the org’s artists volunteer at hospitals and create workshops for kids). Arquette had just returned from the country saying, “It’s another world. I went to the most insane nightclub I’d ever been to there.” His own club Bootsy Bellows (named after his ma’s burlesque stagename) is having a Dinner Theater Extravaganza on Thursday with an after-party hosted by Metta World Peace (tee hee hee). Arquette played the good host, with girlfriend Christina McLarty accepting host gifts from chums. His home is money, but filled with fun stuff like huge LEGO Beatles and elaborate, enormous puppets. It was kind of the party before the party, casual with a good vibe, much like The Art of Elysium itself. The org’s big HEAVEN gala is January 12.
