Five Things We're Not Supposed to Tell You About Our December Issue

40 calories
→ Measurement of energy in a tangerine.Club owner Steve Edelson, who is profiled this month by Dave Gardetta, grows the fruit on his Ojai property. He offered to send research editor Eric Mercado some as a gift, but Mercado declined. He only works for falafel.

5 e-mails
→ Number of frantic requests senior editor Linda Immediato sent on October 29 to New York publicists to meet her deadline for the holiday gift guide. She soon learned that the lack of response was due to a more urgent matter: the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.

10 dead heads
→ Count of wall-mounted bucks (give or take an antler) in the Big Bear cabins seen by photo editor Amy Feitelberg while she was scouting cover locations for “Winter Escapes.” Nothing makes you want to escape quite like taxidermy decor.

15 jelly beans
→ Tally of tiny candies on one of the two edible houses master baker Philip Moreau made especially for Los Angeles. Breaking and entering never sounded so delicious.

9 days
→ Time between associate editor Kari Mozena’s spotting Danny DeVito at an event and the announcement that he and longtime wife Rhea Perlman had split. No cheers to be heard over here.
