LAVA honors hobo novelist, journalist, and screenwriter Jim Tully, a sometimes forgotten denizen of the 1930s Hollywood scene. The festivities include a screening of the hard-boiled 1933 film Laughter in Hell, about a wife-killing railroad worker who busts out of prison (it’s based on a book by Tully); a lecture about his life; a walking tour of his favorite Hollywood haunts; and a literary salon devoted to his work.
