The Sartorial Sleuth Takes On The Bling Ring

Sofia Coppola’s Bling Ring hits theaters today, and the director turns the camera on a pack of luxe larcenists who pillage celebrity homes for the designer duds. Silly isn’t a crime, unless you commit a fashion faux-pas. Here’s how to get bling without breaking the law (or the bank).

Head downtown for loot so cheap it feels like stealing. At The Santee Alley, nab jewels without the jail time and purses that don’t cost a paycheck. Addicted to labels? Nearby designer resale boutique, Buttons & Bows, stocks design world darlings, including Bling Ring stars Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. Name-dropping has never been so affordable.

You could, of course, hit up fast fashion (something a la H&M or XXI), but why risk having a “Who Wore It Best” moment?  Check out our slideshow above for the best blinging deals in town. A dollar saved is a dollar to burn on more bargains.

With over 10 years of costume designing under her belt, Alexis Steinman has shopped this town inside and out. Working on prominent shows (“Weeds”, “CSI”) and outfitting an array of celebs (Jenna Elfman, Anne Hathaway, Sir Richard Branson), this industry insider will be sharing her cinema secrets with us weekly.
