Sweatshirts Get Fancy

Los Angeles has a rep for being, sartorially speaking, a pretty casual city. We can get away with wearing flip flops year round and a three piece suit is usually worn sans the coat. But why should we fight our naturally laid-back disposition? Casual can be chic too. Case in point, statement sweatshirts. From cheeky phrases to one-worders, statement sweatshirts are the perfect starting place to build any put-together look. So pull on a pullover and let your clothes do the talking for you. We’re thinking they should say something like, “So causal we can even dress up a sweatshirt” —but that’s just us.

Check out the four ensembles we created in the slide show above. You’ll find links to purchase each piece below:

Jeans and a sweatshirt get a total upgrade with neutral pumps and a printed clutch. Goodbye schlepping; hello sophistication. Elizabeth and James Los Angeles Sweatshirt ($145); Gap 1969 Sexy Boyfriend Jeans ($69); Jimmy Choo “Anges” Pumps ($539); Vanities Striped and Printed Clutch ($230)

Florals and a pop of color take a sweatshirt with some sass and make it sweet. Long lashes are the only accessory you need to complete this light and breezy look. Brian Lichtenberg Homies Sweatshirt ($98); MSGM Floral Skirt ($374); Jimmy Choo “Attila” Flats ($795);  Bobbi Brown Mascara ($25)

Mirror the language of love and dress up any French statement with dreamy white lace and delicate gold jewelry. Keep warm by adding a cozy jean jacket and ankle booties. Madewell Bien Fait Sweatshirt ($75); Topshop Moto Denim Jacket ($95); Valentino White Lace Shorts ($1,850); Ariel Gordon Jewelry Heart Silhouette Ring ($161); H&M Suede Boots ($34)

Keep your look comfortable with colored jeans and a roomy bag. Add fab flats and a bold necklace to give your sweatshirt any extra oomph it’s craving. Alex & Chloe Ballin In Paris Sweatshirt ($69); Mother Jeans ($183); Report Silverton Flats ($61);
Michael Kors Bag ($228); Kenneth Jay Lane Necklace ($120)
