Flashback Friday: The Flasher

A heady way to keep pedestrians safe in June of 1980

Every Friday, we are publishing some truly classic archival content in honor of our ’80s-themed July issue. This story excerpt and art ran in our June, 1980 issue:

The Flasher ($15) has nothing to do with raincoats and everything to do with late-night and early-morning joggers, bike riders, and skateboarders. To keep these sports enthusiasts safe in the dark, David Segal, a former United KIngdom Olympic bronze medalist, has come up with this one-size-fits-all rainbow-colored headband for men and women that has eight battery-operated blinking red lights. An inner sweatband is removable, washable and replaceable.
