A New Kind of Immersive Art Event Is Here to Save You from Pop-Up Museum Fatigue

So you went to the Museum of Ice Cream. And 29Rooms. Same goes for Happy Place, Candytopia, and the Museum of Failure. Maybe you think you never need to experience a pop-up art event again, especially after you dove mouth-first into a pool of “self-cleaning, antimicrobial sprinkles” that definitely weren’t self-cleaning or antimicrobial. In fact, maybe you think we as a civilization have reached Peak Pop-Up Art Event. You’re going to find this hard to believe, but you’re wrong.

Ariel Gordon has spent the last three years perfecting her vision for ArtCubed, a company whose aim is to make contemporary art more inclusive and accessible by combining it with food, music, film, or nightlife. The result is a delightfully bougie experience that exposes you to emerging local artists—and then some.

Their inaugural event is ARTXFOOD, a temporary supper club that you’ll find at Hollywood’s Goya Studios from May 11 through June 3. A 56-seat dining room, located inside of a literal custom-made cube, constitutes the art portion of the program: It has been built from the ground up by L.A. artist Greg Ito, making the cube a de facto gallery (meaning most everything you’ll see/sit on/eat off of will be for sale).

As for the food, ticket holders will be treated to a four-course meal, made by Top Chef‘s Richard Blais and inspired by Ito’s art, at one of two seatings each night. Once you’re sufficiently wined and dined—because yes and amen, there will be wine pairings—you can sip a digestif while perusing more of Ito’s paintings, sculptures, and installations.

Tickets for ARTXFOOD go on sale today, March 12, and start at $189 (VIP tickets will set you back $235 but will get you some pretty dope, as-yet-undisclosed perks that may or may not include one of Ito’s prints or perhaps a meet-and-greet with Blais). If you’re bougie but not that bougie, consider scooping up your seats sooner rather than later—early bird buyers can snag general tickets for $170 and VIP tickets for $212.

The best part? Unlike the Museum of Ice Cream, ArtCubed will be back after ARTXFOOD wraps. And next time you see them, you might be treated to a one-night-only concert featuring a visual artist/DJ collab, or maybe a weekend-long film festival in a totally different kind of cube—no antimicrobial sprinkles in sight.
