One of our favorite tasting series of the summer kicks off this Friday, May 23. The Barnsdall Friday Night Wine Tasting, which will run every Friday evening through September, takes place on the west lawn of the Hollyhock House at East Hollywood's Barnsdall Art Park.
Featuring gorgeous sunset views of L.A., food trucks, and boutique wines curated by Silverlake Wines, it’s a charming summer combination that’s always memorable.
Tickets are available online for $25, with part of the proceeds going towards the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation (the wine tastings are the foundation’s signature fundraising event).
As for what wines are being poured this week, Silverlake Wine co-owner Randy Clement was kind enough to tell us a little about what he and his crew have in store:
Chateau Mourgues du Gres “Les Galets” Costières-de-Nîmes, 2012, France
"'Les Galets' is one of our favorite summertime wines. A blend of many different varietals native to the south of France, "Les Galets" is light, crisp, minerally, and super refreshing with just a hint of fruit. "Les Galets" (three times for marketing sake) is the French word for all the little pebbles that cover the vineyard floor."
Picnic Wine Co. “Blue Plate Rosé”, 2013, Lodi, California
"A great domestic Rose, "Blue Plate" is a great example of what the burgeoning wine region of Lodi is capable of. Not sweet, this wine is light and fresh on the palate (this is not your mother's rosé). Made from mostly all Grenache, this will be poured ice cold and guaranteed to bring your body temperature down a few degrees."
Skouras “Red” Peloponnese, 2010, Greece
"Overlooked by most of the American and world markets for far too long, Greek wine is making a big comeback. Antiquity style. Skouras is a killer winery located in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece, not far from Athens. The Skouras "Red" is a beautiful, minerally, rustic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and one of the main Greek red grapes: Agiorgitiko."
Xavier Clua "El Sola d'en Pol" Terra Alta, 2012, Spain
"Hailing from Terra Alta, one of the many awesome growing regions outside of Barcelona in Spain's Catalan region, the Clua is a creamy red. It has a nose of fresh red berry fruit and almost a slight floral aspect. A delectable blend of mostly Grenache with some Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Dig it!"
