Hon. Abbe Land
| Councilmember Abbe Land has been a major force in the City of West Hollywood since its inception in 1984. In addition to serving as a member of the West Hollywood City Council, she is also the co-chief executive officer of The Saban Free Clinic, formerly known as the Los Angeles Free Clinic.
She has long been a staunch and tireless advocate for social justice and equality, health care for all, the environment, womens' rights, LGBT rights, economic development, the arts, gun control, children and education. She has led the City's efforts to end chronic homelessness in West Hollywood, spearheaded both the City's Environmental and Bicycle Task Forces, and was instrumental in the creation of a public middle school option for West Hollywood area students and families. Most recently, she has seen the completion of the new West Hollywood Library, an incredible civic and cultural center (to be dedicated on Sat., Oct. 1).
With all of her professional commitments, Councilmember Land also makes time to encourage and mentor women and girls to be involved in the political process, and to pursue leadership opportunities of all types. She is a role model, not just for women and girls, but for all those who value progressive, visionary leadership and passionate public service.|
