Countdown to Coachella: What to Pack (Hip-Hop Edition)
Outkast, Pharell Williams, Jhené Aiko—whichever act you're going to Indio to see, we've got you covered
Coachella, the two-weekend, three-day music and arts festival, is just around the corner. You're either going, or you're dreaming of all the streets you can speed down when the city clears out starting this Friday. With lots of different acts spanning lots of different genres, you may be wondering what to wear. We've got you covered. In the second of a three-day countdown, we're offering some style inspiration based on the acts you might be there to see. Of course, there's no hard and fast rules, except one: Stay cool. Literally. It's going to be, like, 90 degrees.
Outkast return to the stage this Friday! Get ready to shake it like a Polaroid picture (which, incidentally, you shouldn't shake). André 3000 and Big Boi are known for their clever stylings—a mixture of funk, soul, blues, and electronica—and their flamboyant style. Don't be afraid to make a statement, like with this floral-appliqué handbag by Kotur.
Outkast would ask, "What's cooler than being cool?" Their answer: ice cold! Our answer: Pharrell Williams. He's the most in-demand, not to mention most fashionable, multi-hyphenate of the moment, thus the coveted Saturday spot. His Billionaire Boys Club and Icecream clothing lines are experimental and colorful, and his ubiquitous, Vivienne Westwood Buffalo hat speaks for itself (it has a Twitter account, yes). We know Pharrell takes risks, and he would encourage you to do the same.
Check out Jhené Aiko
on Sunday. Jhené is a singer-songwriter from L.A. who is leaving everyone in love with her gentle, pop-tinged vocals. Her sweet, romantic voice makes us think of girlish accessories, like yellow sunglasses and a cute red purse.
