New Launch: Sage's Diamond Roll-On Oil

This unisex scent is perfect for spring and summer

Multi-hyphenate Sage Machado is probably best known for her dazzling, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, which have been coveted by celebs like Julia Roberts, Madonna, and Kate Hudson for their colorful stone arrangements in delicate, organic shapes. But for the boutique owner/clothing designer/perfumer/lifestyle coach, it’s not about the pop stars and wealthy clients who once frequented her now-defunct Beverly Boulevard studio, but rather showing appreciation for nature’s design aesthetic, which has led to her line of artfully blended perfume oils.

There’s something undeniably romantic about her scents (named after rarified gems), which I discovered about a year ago while trolling L.A.’s perfume mecca, Scent Bar, and had a eureka moment: Not everything I spritz has to contain alcohol. “People are becoming more and more educated about the toxins that are in their everyday cosmetics and perfumes so it’s wonderful to be able to offer a more natural alternative,” Machado says. Oils can last just as long and unearth some of the same complex notes as their perfume counterparts, and the wonderful thing about Sage’s fragrance oils is that they either bewitch or bewilder right away.

This month, Sage launches the very bewitching Diamond ($45), a unisex scent that complements both masculine and feminine sides. Free of alcohol, water, or chemicals, the eco-friendly fragrance oil is delicious and surprising with the discreet touch of Indian sandalwood and amber elements atop a crisp oceanic musk. Fresh and gentle, the scent is universally appealing and perfect for spring and summer. It lasts a surprising eight-plus hours on the pulse points, and dare I say it smells expensive? Consider this a nod to Sage’s high-quality ingredients, which rival those triple-dollar-sign fragrances that last half the day at best.
