Haute Heist: Fashion’s Foray Into the Art World
Fashion houses are taking their cues from famous artists. Some have gone so far as to commission original works; other designs are open to interpretation
Miuccia Prada asked Los Angeles-based muralist Miles “El Mac” MacGregor and five other artists to produce original work for her spring collection. A signature saintly portrait by El Mac was incorporated into ready-to-wear pieces, including this skirt (above). Murals by all six artists were used as backdrops for the runway show, creating a meta moment in which art imitated art.
