Writer/director Spike Jonze explores the evolution of intimacy in his futuristic love story Her, starring Joaquin Phoenix. The Golden Globe-nominated film serves up a slice of L.A. life in the imminent future, including where we will all live (skyscraper lofts downtown) and how we will get around town (a real subway system! that goes to the beach and the mountains!). It also takes a shot at predicting how Angelenos will dress (sort of a mashup up of vaguely futuristic looks with strong retro references). The designs, created and styled by Casey Storm, bring warmth to a technology-driven culture with earth tones and familiar but not too familiar silhouettes. The menswear is particularly strong. I love the high-waisted pants and collarless button downs. The womenswear? It's a little ho-hum. Sure, that makes sense in the world of the film thematically, but we hope pencil skirts and heels never actually go out of style.
