The Sartorial Sleuth Returns To The Boardwalk

As fans of Boardwalk Empire have learned, you can't be half a gangsta. So the Sartorial Sleuth has tracked down looks to help you dress the part. Season 4 kicked off last night and introduced another hotspot for Volstead Act violators— Nucky & Chalky's new nightclub. Let's welcome the return of the Roaring '20s (now that we've had all summer to recover from Gatsby overload) with a dose of flapper fashion. Get ready for some sequins! Though Boardwalk Empire shoots in NYC, Costume Designer John Dunn sources specialty frocks from L.A's The Way We Wore. For the most valuable accessory of the '20s, hit up Hollywood Hatters. Click on our slideshow above for dresses that shake and shimmy and hats fit for a crime boss.

With over 10 years of costume designing under her belt, Alexis Steinman has shopped this town inside and out. Working on prominent shows ("Weeds", "CSI") and outfitting an array of celebs (Jenna Elfman, Anne Hathaway, Sir Richard Branson), this industry insider will be sharing her cinema secrets with us weekly.
