Overall, the red carpet at last night's Academy Awards was surprisingly bland, with lots of pale pink dresses and more trains than a rail yard. It looked like one big wedding with all the frothy gowns, and I kept waiting for somebody to throw a bouquet. I was, however, happy to see the return of necklaces (we noticed they had been conspicuously absent in earlier award shows). Helen Hunt bargain bragging on the red carpet wearing H&M was pretty cool, too. For me, Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts were the standouts in a washed out red carpet. See their looks and more:
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. The look is beautiful, but too bridal. Dustin Hoffman played her bridesmaid and carried her train on the red carpet. She called him her "fluffer." I wonder how many times the dress was stepped on last night? I mean in addition to Lawrence, who trod on it herself when collecting her award.
Naomi Watts outshone her fellow nominees in this gunmetal Armani Prive gown
.
Jessica Chastain got it right this time! The coppery beaded Armani Prive gown perfectly complimented her hair and complexion.
Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture. I thought she looked stunning with the new cropped do, but the jury is still out for me on the dress. Maybe it's the color, but it looked like a wedding dress to me.
Anne Hathaway in a Prada column dress looked like she could have been headed to her Sweet 16 party, despite the $485,000 Tiffany & Co. necklace. The most exciting thing about this dress: the exaggerated darts, which caused quite a sensation. #LesNipplerables was an instant trend on Twitter
Amanda Seyfried in a very un-Alexander McQueen custom Alexander McQueen gown. Not sure if it's the color or the flowers, but something about this gown is little off key.
I've changed my mind. I first thought Sally Field looked like an extra from Gone With the Wind with all of those ruffles. But, the Valentino gown has grown on me. It's age-appropriate but doesn't look at all dowdy.
Jane Fonda wore Versace, but it looked like something out of Joan Collins' closet
Quvenzhane Wallis looked age-appropriate yet sophisticated in her in Armani Prive gown.
