Shaved: Why We Love Ellie Goulding's "Miley" Hairdo

Miley Cyrus created a lot of buzz when she recently shaved her head, even though the hairstyle was first brought to our attention by hip hop artist Pepa in the late 80s. Since then, a number of Hollywood icons have toyed with different versions of the look. While this hairdo could easily turn into a hair don’t (anyone see Claire’s “shaved by the bell” debacle in this week’s episode of Modern Family?), it has also served some women quite well (ex: singer/actress Rihanna). We especially like the way Ellie Goulding rocks it in advertisments for her latest album, “Halcyon,” released on October 5 (her poster on Fairfax caught my eye on my way to the office this morning).

Why does this look work for Ellie? We credit her ability to feminize this ‘do by keeping more length than Miley's original cut and combining it with some classic British fashion sense. Whether worn boldly or underplayed, Ellie achieves a look that is both glamorous and timeless.
