Rodarte on Display

The fine art world has been crushing on fashion design for years, but Los Angeles County Museum of Art went public with their feelings for Rodarte just recently with the opening of Rodarte: Fra Angelico, a collection of gowns by Kate and Laura Mulleavy inspired by the frescoes of Florence.

The dresses, which are displayed thoughtfully in the museum’s Italian Renaissance gallery, are chalky but vibrant, and beautifully mix sculptural details and classic draping, with hand-forged metallic accessories. The cantaloupe colored silk and taffeta gown looked fit for an Italian goddess—or Cate Blanchett.

Kate and Laura were on hand to chat about the exhibit when LACMA hosted a media preview last week. While the discussion centered mostly on their time abroad, Los Angeles did get one shout-out worth repeating: “You don’t have to go to Florence to see marvels of history.”

Rodarte: Fra Angelico Collection will be on view through February 5.
