As a longtime vintage shopper, what are you on the lookout for?
Condition is the most important thing. Sometimes you buy a piece, and you can’t even wear it because it immediately falls apart.

Any no-nos?
I never do vintage head to toe. For example, I’ll plan a contemporary outfit around a pair of Chelsea Cobbler boots, which the New York Dolls used to wear.

Can you reveal a few of your sources?
I go to Sielian’s on Melrose and The Way We Wore on La Brea for more rock and roll and couture pieces. Doris Raymond, the owner, has a private collection you can view by appointment only.

What do you buy that’s new?
It’s really hard to find vintage sunglasses, so I use Strand Optical in Beverly Hills.
