Navdeep Mundi gives Kevin Murphy’s new shampoo and conditioner set the wash-and-go treatment
I sometimes get so carried with testing anti-aging serums and face creams that I often neglect other parts of my body. My hair pays the biggest price, and that’s because I rarely think of hair needing any sort of anti-aging effort in the first place. I mean, it’s hair; isn’t it just dead cells?
Yes—but that doesn’t mean it can’t benefit from some love and attention. As hair ages the strands actually become thin, limp, and fragile (read: highly prone to breakage). Research has shown that 50% of women over the age of 35 will experience hair thinning and the loss of natural oils that lubricate the scalp and strands. L.A.’s temps do little to help hair retain its moisture levels.
Here’s where Youth Again Wash and Rinse ($35 each), an anti-aging shampoo/conditioning duo by Kevin Murphy, comes in. The hair therapy’s buzzed-about ingredients are Immortelle and Baobab. The former is extracted from the flowers of the Helichrysum plant and helps repair the hair’s innermost flexibility and structure. The latter is an omega-rich oil that provides essential vitamins A, D, E and F to help hydrate and strengthen tresses. Lotus and bamboo extracts in addition to 20 essential amino acids are also infused in the formula to help restore elasticity.
Considering it’s a sulfate-free formulation, the fruit-scented shampoo lathers up and rinses out well. The concentrated conditioner is incredibly softening and gets the knots and snags undone easily enough, though it’s not as rich as you’d expect it to be. Feeling inspired after a few uses, I scheduled a blowout on the fly and had strangers telling me my full and bouncy hair looked gorgeous, which has never happened before.
There is one hitch: The distribution of Youth Again Wash and Rinse is so tightly managed that you’ll have to find a local salon that is authorized to carry the PETA-approved line of hair care. (Try Butterfly Loft) Having what no one else can get? Now that’s true luxury.
