New Launch: L’Occitane Vitória Régia Eau de Cologne
The France-based retailer releases two new scents, for morning people and night owls
L’Occitane is back with another fragranced body collection, and this time the hand, bath, and cologne assortment centers on the vitória-régia, an exotic flower native to the shallow waters of the Amazon. It is the largest water lily in the world, best known for falling asleep at dawn but having its voluptuous white petals bloom gloriously at night. Inspired by this daily routine, L’Occitane has launched the Vitória Régia Eau de Cologne for both day and night. Splendid!
In the 90-degree heat, I can’t think of any other wearable scent that’s as gentle and perfect for the oppressive temperatures of L.A. L’Occitane’s products always have a discrete nose—transparent, minimalist, and bright. These two fragrances continue in that tradition, which makes them so delightful for daily wear. Vitória Régia Day Flower ($50) captures the pure flowery side of its forebear; the come-hither hints of fruity apple notes burst through layers of orange and lemon. In contrast, Vitória Régia Night Flower ($55) wears more perfume-y, with powdery notes laid over the delicate aroma of darkened petals. The watery sensation of both fragrances makes you feel like you could be inhaling their scent, riverside. They’re pretty and surprisingly unique.
They also wear as long as your conventional eau de colognes. The day version lasted about three hours on me, but the night one seemed to linger for a while, which may explain the slight difference in price. Blending the two together is my favorite way to play after a shower. And the resulting summery scent isn’t redundant in the least. If you’re into the lotion-and-scent ritual, there’s an equally addicting hand cream that’ll help make the fragance a signature one for you.
