New Launch: Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream
Kiehl’s newest launch, the all-in-one moisturizer Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream ($62), is the result of 39 trials over 17 months by the brand’s chemists, who studiously worked on figuring out the right balance of ingredients: Jasmonic Acid (to support epidermal and retexturize the skin’s surface), Beech Tree Extract (to visibly improve plumpness and density) and Fragmented Hyaluronic Acid (to reinforce skin’s natural short and long term moisturization and improve skin barrier function). The trio of tri-actives is designed to work on eight different signs of aging and was formulated for women who like to keep their skincare routines down to three basic steps—cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.
Fragmented Hyaluronic Acid happens to be the latest buzzword in the skincare space. Preferred by most derms, Hyaluronic Acid (HA) draws moisture from the air and holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water. But what puts this ingredient above the rest is its fragmentation; that is to say, it’s not in its whole form. Is there a difference? Yes.
I spoke with Dr. Geoffrey Genesky (Head of Laboratory, Skin Care Research & Innovation Manager at Kiehl’s), who says, “Fragmented Hyaluronic Acid is chemically similar to the classes of HA that have often been used but is a smaller molecule than these. We selected Fragmented HA not only for its known effects on skin’s short- and long-term moisturization, but also because it can help to decrease skin roughness and the appearance of wrinkles.”
According to the multi-ethic test panel (and me), the cream works. The last time I remembered having balanced, fresh skin was in college when a co-ed roomie remarked that I still looked like a high schooler. (I barely used anything beyond a cleanser back then.) But, times have changed, and so has my skincare. Armed with an arsenal of retinols and peels (both in the vain hope to fade my telltale age spots), dry skin has become more common these days. This all-in-one moisturizer works helps to offset the seasonal dryness and is sure to be this fall’s smartest skincare splurge.
Light enough for the day but rich enough for overnight use, I found the quality to surpass that of even those $200+ superluxe creams. After just a week’s use, my dehydration has all but disappeared. The morning after, my skin seems perky and gives off a glow. Added bonus: it’s non-sticky and wears well under make-up.
