About Face: Nars Declares Its Love With a New L.A.-Themed Makeup Collection
This fall Nars cosmetics cops to its crush on L.A. with a limited-edition set of the city’s best-selling shades. We asked NARS makeup artist Uzo for some pointers on how to use the palette, which is called “NARS Loves Los Angeles.” The L.A.-based beauty veteran, who’s earned single-name status with her trendsetting runway work for designers like Rodarte and Christian Dior, offered these contrasting looks.
A bright, bold eye paired with soft, feminine lips gives daytime makeup a wake-up call. Skin should be radiant, with a hint of peach.
Skin: Prep face with primer, and follow with tinted moisturizer and concealer as needed.
Eyes: Apply Abyssinia, a pearlescent shadow, lightly to lids, blending it toward the crease. Using a blending brush, lightly layer a small amount of Outremer, a bright blue shadow, along the lash line and past the crease, blending well. Layer on additional shadow for a more saturated hue. With a contour brush, lightly sweep Bali, a neutral brown shadow, in the crease. Line only the upper lashes with a black pencil. Apply 2 coats of a volumizing mascara to upper lashes and 1 coat to the outer corners of lower lashes.
Cheeks: Lightly dust forehead and cheeks with Laguna bronzer. Apply Deep Throat, a sheer peach blush, along the cheekbones, sweeping it toward the temples.
Lips: Cap off the look with Turkish Delight, a light pink lip gloss.
A smoky eye sets off the natural pink lip favored this season (against a backdrop of burnished skin). The result is sensual and modern.
Skin: Prep face with primer, and follow with foundation and concealer as needed.
Eyes: Lightly apply étrusque shadow, an antique gold, to the entire lid, blending it toward the crease. Using a blending brush, layer Bali over the entire lid, applying more shadow in the crease to create depth and dimension. Place abyssinia on the browbone and inner corner of the eye for a brightening effect. Line upper and lower lashes with a dark brown or black eyeliner pencil; smudge for more definition. Apply 2 coats of a volumizing mascara to upper and lower lashes.
Cheeks: Brush Laguna bronzer lightly over forehead, cheeks, and nose. Swirl Deep Throat blush on the apples of cheeks, blending the color toward the temples.
Lips: Apply Turkish Delight for a glam finish.
