No joke—Roadhouse LA brings ‘cue to the Improv

So it’s official: We’re one deep-fried grits appetizer away from hitting the fatty apex of the Southern Food frenzy. Umami Restaurant Group announced today that the pizza-and-burger empire’s next enterprise will tackle—you guessed it—barbecue.

Roadhouse LA, which will debut at the Improv theater on Melrose, will feature the wood-smoked work of chef Robbie Richter, the pitmaster behind such New York modern barbecue favorites as Hill Country and Fatty ‘Cue. Executed in partnership with Helen Springut’s this is not a pop-up company, the restaurant won’t have any particular regional focus, according to a release, featuring menu items such as paneer with smoked curried goat gravy, pork ribs with fish sauce, pimento mac and cheese, and various whole shoulder cuts.

Umami CEO Adam Fleischman’s latest meat fetish comes on the heels of the new Bludso’s Bar-&-Que, a high-profile La Brea branch (with full bar!) of the beloved  Compton shackNo word yet on timing, though Umami rarely makes any formal announcements until a project is pretty far along. Here’s hoping it’s slinging ribs in time for the Fourth.
